Vienna - Felix Heumann (15), one of WebMUN’s youngest delegates met this morning with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to Austria & Permanent Mission to International Organizations in Vienna and was briefed by several diplomats involved with the UAE’s OPEC representation, since Felix will represent the UAE in the OPEC committee at WebMUN. At the briefing, he was informed about the general stance of the UAE towards global issues, including issues such as ISIS.
Felix was invited to the Embassy after he sent a request to meet with a diplomat who could offer him more insight into the UAE’s foreign policy. He was greeted with Turkish coffee and arabic sweets and was then briefed by Third Secretary, Mr. Ahmed A. Altakkawi, with several other diplomats also involved in the meeting.
The diplomats explained that the UAE is concerned with current developments in Iraq and Syria and stressed the importance to fight against ISIS. Furthermore, the diplomats explained that that the UAE is actively involved in attempting to create a more stable region.
The United Arab Emirates is an oil-rich state in the Middle East, with its capital being Abu Dhabi. Besides exporting fossil fuels, the economy is based on tourism, fishing, construction, textiles and ship repairs. UAE is a member of the UN, OPEC, Arab League, GCC and several more international organizations.
